Tennessee Hill

Up on top of Tennessee Hill
There is a spot that is quiet and still
And if you're lucky you might just see
The loveliest of all the ladies
In the sun and in the fall
I like those ladies the best of all
I like to watch them dancing in the breeze
Well it's a joyous thing to see
Ooooh... them sweet ladies.
Ooooh.. up on Tennessee Hill...
One by one they all fall down
We gonna dress them up and pass them around
They bring magic to the eyes
Of everyone who passes them by
Ooooh... them sweet ladies
Ooooh.. up on Tennessee Hill...
Coughing laughing and taking names
I love to see those ladies goin up in flames
Ooooh... them sweet ladies
Ooooh.. up on Tennessee Hill...

Hard Times
04:46
|
|||
I can recall that summer when the land failed to provide
and my dad came home with the weight of the world dragging behind
He had seen the sun beat that earth and he witnessed it's final goodbye
and all the hard work in the world wouldn't change our fate this time
It's time we move on, to something new
It was my grandparents on my fathers side who had settled down on this land
That was after a similar tale of a serious change of plans
From on the other side of a great big sea they lived so meagerly
But a spark took hold on their dry stack of wood, it talked of the land of the free
It's time we move on to something new
It's time we move on...
(chorus)
We can get through this
Cus we have been through worse
and the worst is likely yet to come
But the hard times make us stronger still
My dad he was born with grease on his elbows
he could fix just about anything
and when stuck between a rock and a place that is hard
my dad he sure knew how to dig
So we moved in to town he started fixing up cars, times were hard yah times were tough
But momma always had a knack for turning a little into enough
It's time we hold on, and see it through
It's time we hold on...
(chorus)
It's just dusty fields, just hardened ground
There's nothing left here, just look around
Thousands of miles, and an unknown land
Couldn't be worse, than the life we have.
Now he's an old man and my mom has passed and the days resemble grains of sand
Like those dusty fields on our old land, his best crops have seen their last
He grew to be stubborn he wouldn't move away, refused fussing over in his old age
But he took a fall and thank God he called and I came straight away
This time is was me that did say
(Chorus)

In The City
03:45
|
|||
Are you tired of back breaking labour in the fields?
Worried about your crops bringing maximum yields?
Wouldn't you rather spend hot days in air conditioning?
You should become a suburbanite!
You'll have a clean and prosperous life
with all the convenient trinkets to save time
so you can pursue all your leisurely pleasures.
You can get what you need in the city,
whatever you want is within a moments notice
All the food you could ask for,
available at the grocery store
Vegetables stacked up nicely,
fruit waxed and shiny for your convenience
There are so many options for you
Contribute to the betterment of society
You could pursue higher academics
Become a doctor, a lawyer
Sure it can be hard work
But it's more rewarding in the end
You may have debt at first
But you'll be laughing when all that money comes in
You can get what you need in the city,
whatever you want is within a moments notice
Spend your money on a new touchless kitchen faucet
Remember, you always deserve better,
never should you settle for less
Feelin down on your luck?
Try this miraculous concoction!
Made with patented secret proprietary ingredients
It'll kickstart your career from dumpster diver to high-lifer
You'll be getting that promotion you've always wanted
And so many bonuses, you won't know what to do with them
Believe you me, you me, you me...
Cause I ain't no snake-oil salesman
You can get what need in the city,
whatever you want within a moments notice
Truth be told, no salesman has a cure for what ails ya
But lo and behold
you can mask your troubles at the local watering hole!
Looks like you've exhausted all your options
But there might be one you haven't thought of
Have you considered communal living?
Grow your own food, and help tend the garden
You don't pay rent, all we expect
Is your elbow grease and sweat
You can get what you need in the city,
whatever you want within a moments notice
You can furnish your place with treasures from the alleyway
Build community on a shoestring,
and live by your own means.

Easy Way Out
03:43
|
|||
I've been looking for an easy way out
Been trying to slip between the bone dry mudcracks
I wish that I could just steal away to the burnt black forest
blend into the night-sky background
But life keeps on dragging me back
hmmm hmmmmm hmmm....
Been hiding away in plain sight
I'm your grandfather clock just a-tickin away on the wall
I'm an old used knife, buried deep in the drawer
everyday gettin more and more dull
How long can this last?
Hmmm hmmmmm.....
We know it aint right but we keep it all inside
Need to just communicate instead it all just culminates
I'm seriously irritated, feeling unappreciated
Stuck inside the Hindenburg just waiting for to crash and burn
This house is full of landmines and quicksand
Been getting good at disarming the traps, I've learned to tame the dragon
Been waking up to alarms going off inside of the night
black smoke coming in through the doorway
Seems my escape routes are blocked
We know it aint right but we keep it all inside
Need to just communicate instead it all just culminates
I'm seriously irritated, feeling unappreciated
Stuck inside the Hindenburg just waiting for to crash and burn
I've been looking for an easy way out
but the only way out is through the fire.

Ball of Thread
03:33
|
|||
I am a ball of thread and you're at the end, barely hanging on
I am a ball of thread and you're at the end, barely hanging on
I am a tangled mess but you'd never guess I just keep on hanging on
All of the lengths I go to put up with your bossy attitude
All of the times I've said that this is the end, well it never seems to stop
I don't know what I'd do if looked back and didn't see you
I am willing to admit that on you, I do depend.
Just like your worn out sweater that keeps getting better, you just keep on hanging on
Just like an old pair of shoes that look good on you, you just keep on hanging on
You're a ball of thread and I'm at the end, I hang on for dear life
Though the strings have frayed, the knots have stayed, and tightened over time
I don't know what I'd do if looked back and didn't see you
I am willing to admit that on you, I do depend.
Did you ever think that
We would be so easily attached
Where I end then you begin
Future looks bright with you my friend
Cause I am a ball of thread
Barely hanging on

Chicken-Like Birds Salmon Arm, British Columbia
Ari and Jasmin bring forth the old-time-new-time country blues and ragtime, a smidge of intentional sloppiness, a foot stomp or two, and often humorous lyrics with a bit of sugary sweetness in there for good measure. They are always striving to push the limits of what they can do, bringing their quirkiness and passion to the stage for a fun and interactive show that is never quite the same twice. ... more
